Association Between Cervical Cancer Stage and Sexual Dysfunction as a Side Effect of Radiotherapy in Patients at Margono Soekardjo Hospital, Purwokerto
Abstract
Objective: This study aims to determine the side effects of radiotherapy on sexual function and its association with cancer staging in cervical cancer patients at Margono Soekardjo Hospital in 2017-2022.
Methods: This research uses a cross-sectional analysis with a retrospective data collection method. The data collected include primary data from FSFI questionnaire results and secondary data from medical records containing demographic data, cervical cancer stage, and treatment given to cervical cancer patients at Margono Soekardjo Hospital, Purwokerto.
Results: There were 79 subjects with a mean age of 48.8 ± 10 years old, with the most prevalent age group being 45-59 years old. The majority of patients were at stage IIB (45.57%). The mean FSFI score obtained was 27.31 ± 14.69, with 46 patients (58%) having sexual dysfunction. Based on the results of the Chi-Square test, there is no significant relationship between the stage of cervical cancer and sexual function (p=0.586).
Conclusion: The study results show a high incidence of sexual dysfunction among cervical cancer survivors, particularly in those with an average age of 48.8 years and most commonly diagnosed at stage IIB. Radiotherapy significantly impacted sexual function, with an average FSFI score of 27.31. Regular sexual function evaluations before and after radiotherapy are recommended to enable early management and reduce morbidity.
